Meal Plan Monday- Let's talk Crockpots
A crock pot is an essential item in my kitchen! Here's why:
I love love love my crock pot...so much so that I have TWO of them! With 3 kids it's a godsend. I have been loyal to my crock pot even before my oldest son was born. As a student and working I was able to come home to a hot meal at the end of the day without a ton of effort. Now with little ones of my own it has saved my bacon on more then one occasion, especially when I have a newborn. I can get up tend to baby and prep my crock pot meal in the morning (OR if I am really ambitious I do up a bunch of freezer meals that can just get dumped in the crock pot, I do them usually before baby arrives) then I go about my day with a newborn and/or other children while the crock pot does ALL the work for me! Then when the witching hour inevitably hits right at supper time, I have a meal ready to go.
So what can you cook in a crock pot? well practically anything! There are so many recipes from simple and easy meals to fancy complicated dishes. I've compiled a Pinterest board with some simple crock pot recipes. Feel free to follow as I will be adding more to it. Some of my favorites to do in the crock pot are roast beef with potatoes and soups (I make a mean chicken noodle soup!) I also love my crock pot for the summer's. We don't have air conditioning (our house is nearly 100 years old) so sometimes turning on the stove or the oven isn't something I want to do when it hits 30 degrees plus in July (Southern Alberta over here...that's really hot). So the crock pot cooks for me and that makes everyone happier.
Well what about brands/styles? A basic model will get you by just fine, both of mine are the basic models. If you want to upgrade though you can get ones that are programmable as well as ones that automatically stir for you. (Great for those moments when you forget to stir something which sometimes I do...)
And so concludes my rambling discussion on crock pots.
